DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING
SENIOR LABORATORY TECHNICIAN (P09) PERMANENT
REF NO: WSU-BCC-FEBEIT 04/2026/06
The purpose of this position is to identify, analyse and troubleshoot computer hardware and software problems and provide necessary support to academic staff and students in setting up computer laboratories to facilitate teaching and learning. The incumbent reports to the HOD in respect of the key performance areas listed hereunder.
Minimum requirements
- Advanced Diploma/BTech in Electrical Engineering at NQF level 7
- Registration with ECSA will be an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years relevant experience
Skills/Competencies required
- Competent in IT packages as appropriate to area of specialism; for example, Matlab to simulate and model processes and systems, and simulation packages, such as Circuitmaker, LTSpice, Multisim, or Proteus to simulate electronic circuits and systems.
- Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), as well as email, internet and retrieval of electronic documents Knowledge of computer systems, hardware, and various types of software.
- Ability to use telecommunication test equipment: Spectrum Analyzer, Oscilloscope, Vector Analyzer, OTDR, Power Meter, Signal Generators, etc.
- Ability to use test equipment and electronic tools to fault-find and fix faulty equipment
- Knowledge and competency in using Technology such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Skype,
- and Learner Management Systems such as Moodle and/or WiseUp to facilitate teaching and learning.
- Building strategic alliances and partnerships / clients
- Must have the ability to effectively provide instruction to lab users.
